BPD Arrests Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run

From Press Release:

Arrested: Edin Begic, 36, Boise

Charges: Evidence – Destruction, Alteration or Concealment (F), Accident – Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in an Injury or Death (F)

On Tuesday around 7:15 pm Boise Police detectives were called out to the 2000 block of W. Stewart Ave. for a follow-up on the fatal hit and run crash on State St. near Roe St. A tow truck driver who was patrolling for cars without permits in a nearby apartment complex noticed a vehicle covered in blankets and removed the vehicle from the parking lot and onto his flatbed truck. The driver was aware of the information shared about the suspect vehicle and called police. The vehicle, a silver Honda, had extensive front-end damage, a shattered windshield, and additional evidence indicating it was the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. After locating the vehicle, detectives located a potential suspect with connections to the vehicle, Edin Begic. Following an investigation Begic was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.

On Tuesday, the Ada County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 56-year-old Erma Sookiyak of Anchorage, Alaska. We want to thank the Boise community for assisting investigators by sharing crucial information about the suspect vehicle, which ultimately led to an arrest in this case.

I’m sure people are going to be wondering WHY charge aren’t more severe.  As far as i can tell, there’s really nothing tying him to the actual scene of the accident as long as he keeps his mouth shut.  He is in possession of the vehicle, but there’s nothing to indicate (that i see) he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

  1. Whoever the gentleman was trolling for unlicensed vehicles, PLEASE send him and others to Caldwell. The police will not ticket unlicensed junkers. I called in an unlicensed vehicle that was in front of me on my 2.5 mi. trip to Costco in neverending bumper-to-bumper traffic a mexican female at the nonemergency number told me that they don’t have to have a license or registration. I went into elementary level to try to explain it is the law and that without a license, they also do not have insurance. But, yet my State Farm bill keeps going up. She was clueless and couldn’t figure out why I called. On the way back from Costco there was another unlicensed vehicle so I called the non-emerg. and got a different mexican, she was as stupid as the first. If the Caldwell police would do their job all they would have to do is drive around their parking lot and they could find unlawful and unlicensed vehicles there. Caldwell is totally scary, gangs everywhere, modified mufflers which no one is ever stopped for,, and if you’re not mormom your property is accessed higher and that is a fact.

    1. Your name fits you perfect KAREN. Did you play Karen in the 2021 movie titled Karen? Also, the city and state isn’t going to waste tax payer money to have a bunch of unregistered vehicles towed that will never get claimed or paid so no wonder they didn’t even know what you’re talking about. Maybe they do that in CA where you probably moved from but this is Idaho not CALI. It’s up to the property owner to have vehicles towed off their property and again most aren’t going to PAY hundreds of dollars to do so. However, there are tow companies that will gladly tow vehicles for free if its valuable enough and they know they can go through the legal process to obtain title and scrap it out.
