Full Story: The Twin Falls Murder

In the late-night hours of November 17th,  Boise PD gave chase to a nondescript Ford F150 occupied by two young males.  The pickup had allegedly been driving recklessly in the downtown corridor and had almost hit several people.  Police caught up to the vehicle near the intersection of Capitol and Idaho and chased it all the way to 12th and Jefferson, where the pickup ran into a barrier and both occupants fled on foot.

18-year-old Mi’Quavis Taylor was captured first; found hiding between some buses next to the accident site.  Taylor told police he was just the passenger in the vehicle, and the driver, 18-year-old Kaden Thomson, was wanted for murder.

Fred Rodriguez looked out the window of his Twin Falls home and saw a shadowy figure emerge from a pickup across the street.  He and his wife thought this might happen.  The key fob for their Dodge Caravan had been stolen at some point during the last week, and when Rodriguez’s wife shared the story on Facebook, several people told her the thieves would likely be back.   It was just after 1:00 AM on November 17th.

The shadowy figure was Thomson.  He and Taylor were trying to steal one more car before making their way to Boise. Taylor was being sought in a shooting that had occurred at the Target Parking lot in Twin Falls a few hours earlier, and he was eager to leave town.

According to court records, Thomson and Taylor’s crime spree started a week or so earlier.  Between November 9th and 17th, the duo allegedly stole six vehicles in the Twin Falls area.  There was a silver honda stolen from the parking lot on Falls Ave, a Nissan Murano and Chrysler 200 stolen from a home on Pheasant Rd West, a Chevy Silverado, a Mazda 3, and finally the Ford F150 intercepted by BPD.

Taylor and Thomson are tied to each theft by their own admission, police-collected evidence, or both.  A lot of the crimes were documented in photos and videos located on Thomson’s phone.

For example, Thomson had a photo on his phone of the Nissan Morano covered in mud, after it had been reported stolen.  Likewise, police found a video of the Chevy Silverado and Mazda three captured shortly after Thomson and Taylor crashed them into each other for some yet-to-be-explained reason.

Thomson stepped out of the stolen Ford F150 and started “Getting ready”.  He told police he pulled his mask down over his head, flipped his hood up and readied a KelTec 9mm handgun he’d “Car Hopped” from a vehicle earlier that week.  Car Hopping is what the pair called breaking into cars

Thomson creeped over to the van and slid into the driver’s seat.  Before he could get the key in the ignition though, Rodriguez sidled into the passenger seat with a baseball bat.

Rodriguez’s wife told police she heard the distinct sound of gunshots coming from the van, accompanied by muzzle flashes.  She ran outside to find her husband in a pool of blood on the passenger side of the car.  She attempted CPR, but it was too late.  Emergency Medical Personnel arrived on scene a short while later and pronounced Rodriguez dead.

Thomson ran back to the stolen F150. He told Taylor he’d “Lit off 6-5 shots”.  Taylor asked what type of round he had in the gun.  He told him hollow tips.

“I told him straight like, bro, you killed him.  So, I got to speeding off faster and faster” Taylor told police.

Thomson and Taylor both face  Four counts of felony burglary, five counts of felony grand theft, and one count of first degree Murder.  Both are being held in Ada County without bail.
