Students at a charter school in Garden City were locked down this afternoon after a parent reported a man with a rifle near the school.
According to a communication sent to parents at Future Charter School on 43rd in Garden City, a man was seen walking along 42nd street toward the Greenbelt with what appeared to be an automatic rifle. The parent immediately notified the school, who implemented a lock-down procedure and called the police.
Garden City and Boise PD responded within minutes and created a perimeter around the school while searching for the subject.
Initial reports indicate the subject was potentially a young man in the area with an Airsoft gun. According to the note sent to parents, however, it’s now believed to be a different person.
The school was locked down starting just before dismissal, at 3:24. Students were released by about 4:00p.
